Title

Paralysis Factor and Dead-Time, Measurement Technique and Count Rate Correction

Abstract

New experimental technique based on well known decaying source method is presented to measure the paralysis factor and dead-time of a radiation detector. Use of two parameter based dead-time correction scheme is an improvement over the conventional one-parameter models. A simple technique is proposed to deduce these parameters from the recorded data, based on rise and drop of count rates from a rapidly decaying source. Measurements were made using Mn-56 and V-52 isotopes. The data collected in this study shows that HPGe detector under test conditions had a paralysis factor of approximately 50-77% and a dead-time of 6-10 us.
