Modelling Methods for Lined Ducts in Silencers

Abstract

The problem addressed in this paper is the calculation of the transverse and axial wave numbers of the acoustic field in ducts of rectangular or circular geometry. The use of the wave number information in the calculation of acoustic attenuation is also discussed. Acoustic propagation in the presence of a steady flow with a sheared velocity profile is the general case modelled, with uniform steady flow and the absence of flow being special cases.
