New Low-Modulus Photoelastic Material
Abstract
A new low-modulus material which could be used for photoelastic, grid and moire methods of stress analysis has been developed using polyurethane prepolymer, dried castor oil and a catalyst. By varying the percentage of dried castor oil, it is possible to get materials having Young's modulus between 6 kg/cm2 and 17kg/cm2 and 17kg/cm2. The method of casting transparent, bubble free, constant thickness sheets is described. The material may find extensive application in two dimensional stress analysis.
