Empirical Correlations For the Estimation of Free Energies of Fusion of Cubic Monoxides

Abstract

The existing thermodynamic database for NaCl-cubic alkali halides has been used to derive empirical relationships that allow prediction of the free energy of fusion with respect to temperature of monoxides with a similar crystal structure. Compound melting points and ionicities play a role in the estimation technique, and a correction is made for the effect of high-temperature disordering in some compounds. ΔGf for MnO and NiO are estimated using the new technique, and are compared with previous efforts.
