Masters Theses

Abstract

"The problem undertaken in this thesis is to present Lyapunov's method of stability as i t applies to control systems and to use it in the stability analysis of nonlinear control systems. The variable gradient method of generating Lyapunov functions is presented since this seems the best general procedure for obtaining Lyapunov functions. Also, the integration of matrices method is presented as a comparison. ii

Procedures for the use of the variable gradient method and the integration of matrices method are written and several examples are used to illustrate these procedures.

It is concluded that Lyapunov's method is very definitely of value as a method of solving for the stability of nonlinear systems. It is the only method, at the present time, that does allow the direct solution of stability for nonlinear systems"-Abstract p. ii
