Application of the pipeline oil spill volume computer model

Keywords and Phrases

Pipeline Oil Spill Computer Model (POSVCM)

Abstract

"A pipeline oil spill computer model is applied to a pipeline section in the Gulf of Mexico. A rupture in the pipeline network is assumed to happen in order to study its results. The results include the amount of oil and gas release, pressure drop, underwater plume, trajectory, other plume characteristics, and oil slick formation are discussed...Although the results of this study were not verified by an actual field pipeline leak, the results of this study are considered valid because the DeepBlow portion of POSVCM was verified with field testing in Norway, during the DeepSpill joint industry program."--Abstract, page iii.
