Modeling of melt pool thermal behavior in laser material

Keywords and Phrases

Abstract

"This dissertation presents a mathematical model which includes most physical phenomena taking place in the laser-material interaction, such as phase changes and the Marangoni effect. Since the melt pool dynamics is primarily driven by the interfacial forces, which in turn rely considerably on the melt pool geometry, a free surface tracking method associated with the numerical implementation scheme is proposed. The dissertation investigates the melt pool evolution process and analyzes the effects from laser properties and different process conditions"--Abstract page iv.
