Synthesis and X-ray Structure of the [Fe₄S₄(CO)₁₂]²⁻ Ion: An Example of Intermolecular Disulfide Formation by the (μ-S)₂Fe₂(CO)₆ Unit
Abstract
Reaction of (μ-S)2Fe2(CO)6 with 1 equiv of LiEt3BH in tetrahydrofuran produces the green complex anion [Fe4S4(CO)12]2- (1). The crystal structure of the Ph4As+ salt of 1 shows that the anion contains two [(μ-S)2Fe2(CO)6]- units linked by an S-S bond. © 1984 American Chemical Society.
