The Synthesis and X-ray Crystal Structures of Homoleptic Tetrahedral Aryls of Osmium(IV) and of Cyclohexyls of Ruthenium(IV), Osmium(IV), and Chromium(IV)
The interaction of o-tolylmagnesium bromide or AlPh 3(OEt 2) with osmium tetraoxide leads to the isolation of the homoleptic, tetrahedral osmium(IV) compounds OsR 4 (R = C 6H 4Me-o or C 6H 5). Thermally stable M (C 6H 11) 4 compounds (M = Ru, Os, or Cr; C 6H 11 = cyclohexyl) are obtained by the interaction of the Grignard reagent with Ru 2(O 2CMe) 4Cl, Os 2(O 2CMe) 4Cl 2, and CrCl 3(thf) 3 (thf = tetrahydrofuran) respectively. The structures of all five compounds have been determined by X-ray crystallography.
