Types of Materials

Initially, Scholar's Mine will only contain theses and dissertations along with hundreds of post prints from IEEE by UMR authors.  This is because IEEE has a very liberal self-preservation policy that allows us to post the final version directly downloaded from IEEE Xplorer.  Soon, however, we will go through the process of acquiring other materials from faculty, including post and pre-prints, white papers, technical reports, patents, and more.  For more information about this process please click here.

File Formats

Scholars' Mine holds only scholarly works produced by UMR faculty and students and any accompanying materials (such as data sets, images, source code, movies, etc.).  The file formats allowed are only those that are of an "open" nature where their longevity can be ensured.  Currently, the approved file formats are:

• PDF (.pdf)
• Plain Text (.txt)
• Rich Text Format (.rtf)
• HTML (.html)
• JPEG (.jpeg/.jpg)
• TIFF (.tiff/.tif)
• AIFF (.aiff/.aif/.aifc)
• WAV (.wav)
• MPEG (.mpeg/.mpg)
• PS (.ps)
• XML (.xml)

Also, please note that due to security concerns, executable files will not be allowed in the repository (.exe or similar).

Other file formats may be added in the future as their robustness is evaluated for long-term preservation purposes.
